Melons Mission

The pupils of Southbourne Junior School, continue to raise money for the Melon Mission. Our sponsored walks of 2018 and 2019 raised funds for the school in Kenya, to help complete the main building and the much needed toilets! The children enjoyed completing laps around the Infant and Junior School site, collecting a bead each lap, creating beautiful friendship bracelets to remind us of the children in Africa. The children in Kenya enjoyed making the bracelets in their school when the team of volunteers visited them in October 2019.

So far we have: carried melons on a sponsored walk, dance to a sponsored Zumba and collected bricks on a sponsored walk! Our sponsored walk raised nearly £2500! Many thanks to all our families and friends of Southbourne Junior and Infant schools.

We spent 2017 collecting shoes for our 'Soulmates' appeal to send to the children of the school, which were greatly recieved.

The current aim of the mission is to build a permanent school site for children in Kenya. Previously, the lessons of the school have taken place in an old building which the charity did not own-now the owner has taken the building back leaving the children with nowhere to go.

Now, thanks in part, to the support of our fanatstic learning community, the Melon Mission has been able to start building a new school. There is still a long way to go on this journey though and SJS hopes to continue supporting the charity until the completion of this mammoth task!
